I'm so excited to share our growing residency and retreat program, and some of my favorite ceramics making products, that I've partnered with four fabulous ceramics brands to create the ultimate clay giveaway!

The Prize Package

Let's jump in with the most exciting part: The Grand Prize Package.

  • A two week ceramics residency at Well Traveled Wares Studios in rural Portugal, for one winner and 2-3 of their friends. (Airfare, transportation and meals are not included)
  • Includes clay, studio glazes, 24/7 studio access, lodging, and firing.). Resident artists will have access to test out tools and materials from partner brands, during their stay.

How To Enter

  • Required: 
  • Subscribe to receive emails from at least two of the giveaway brands through the provided link. Each subscription counts as 5 entries, so you can get up to 25 entries.
  • If you are already subscribed to any of the brands, do not unsubscribe and reusnscribe. There is a place on the form to note you are already a subscriber, and you will still receive the 5 entries.
    Required: Tag a friend you want to share this experience with, and tell us what you would make/do during your residency in Portugal. Each separate tag/comment = 1 entry
  • Required:  Share and/or repost  and save giveaway post = 1 entry

Rules and Fine Print

  • Official rules. 
  • Giveaway is open October 21 - 30 at 11;59 pm PST. 
  • All entries must sign up for at least two companies email lists, comment on the main giveaway post and tag at least one friend, and share the giveaway post (tag @well.traveled.wares in the shared story) to be entered.
  • Winner will be selected at random from all entries and announced on Instagram and via email on November 1.
  •  Winner of grand prize package must be a resident of the United States. If a winner from another country is selected, they will only be eligible to win the ceramics residency, and the other prizes will be given to a secondary winner who resides in the United States.
  • Residency does not include flights, transportation in Portugal, or food. It only includes lodging for 1-4 guests, clay, studio access, firing and studio glazes. Winner is responsible for booking their own travel, transportation, and meals. 
  • This  giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by Instagram.
  • Residency logistics. Dates for residency must be agreed upon with the inner and Well Traveled Wares Studios, prior to booking flights. Residency must be taken between March 2027 and May 2028. 
  • All prizes will be shipped directly to the winner from the company providing the prizes.

From Portland to Portugal: the evolution of Well Traveled Wares

In late 2024, my husband Nick and I relocated to a small agricultural village in the Silver Coast area of Portugal. We found a plot of land with two houses, and a giant garage big enough to house a ceramic studio. The bigger house was transformed into a residency house for up to 4 guest artists, and in 2025 they began hosting artists for residencies and teaching classes to local artists. Thus creating a new play on "Well Traveled Wares" and expanding it to visiting and local artists, and the wares they create here and travel home with.
