9" Mariana's Doilies (wall hanging)
Mariana made a small batch of her solo work here in the states last summer. It’s a passion project that is a tribute to the women in her family, particularly her maternal grandmother, Donna Celeste, and her ornate crochet work. These sweet coasters are inspired by one of Celeste’s doilies and made from a slab of clay, that Mariana press the design into, and cuts into the star shape.
She didn’t have time to glaze this one before she left so after much debate I decided to glaze it in a white Crystal glaze. Because we used a speckled clay body, there are pops of pink that show through the glaze. They have a wire on the back to hang on the wall.
