Most of the design is sketched out, painted with underglaze before I let it dry. bit and begin cutting away the negative space between the buildings and clouds to create a multi-dimensional city scene. After it dries more, I go back with carving tools and remove lines to accentuate the swirls in the sky and the lines of the buildings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter the mug is bisque fired, I can touch up the details, and then meticulously paint 3 coats of the sparkly black glaze over the buildings, and clear glaze in the sky. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is an option to add mother of pearl luster to the clouds, and gold luster to the stars and water tower details. This requires applying the lusters after the mug is glazed a third firing at a lower temperature.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese mugs are a functional work of art, and each one takes about 5-7 hours to complete.
